Fritanga

Fritanga
Benton Park
Price Range: Inexpensive

I finally decided to start taking pictures of what I order(imagine that). I'm actually asking myself if I really need to write a review for this one, because if I do I would be wasting my time. "Wasting my time" you say? We'll I could be using the time spent writing this review properly by getting in my car and driving over to Fritanga. This place is ridiculously good. To anyone who thinks Nicaraguan food is the same as Mexican I say to you "ah No". It actually had more in common with Nigerian food than Mexican. The cassava was just like the yam my moms used to make and man the have plantains! PLANTAINS! Those of you that know me know about my Nigerian heritage and if you didn't know, we love us some plantains. I wouldn't ever say I have had a plantain better than my mom makes(thats just ridiculous) but these plantains were just as good. The rice was also good but the pork was off the hook! I stole some of Sasha's chicken as well as Rob's steak/beef and both of them were just as good, and they had PLANTAINS! I should also say that it is a very small restaurant so if you have more than 3 or 4 people you need to call ahead. What else can I say? This place is legit

Momos Greek Tavern

Price Range: Inexpensive

I had to do something a little different in terms of cuisine so I decided on greek this week. I have been to both Olympia's and Ari's which means my other choices were Momos or Spiros. I chose Momo's(obviously). Whenever I go to a Greek place i usually get the gyro. It's probably not the most authentic choice but I like it and it also gives me a basis to which I can compare restaurants. We ended up getting four different dishes and splitting it four ways. The food was pretty good but I wasn't really impressed with the gyro. It had a bit too many onions and veggies on it rather than meat. It probably ranks after Olympia's and Ari's. I gotta give props to the place though. They had belly dancers. I can't say i've ever seen that in a restaurant before. Oh...and I wish I could have holla'd back at the cute hostess.

Chava's Mexican Grill

Chava's Mexican Grill
Soulard

Price Range: Inexpensive

It's Chava's Mexican grill on the third week. This might be one of those restaurants I need to go back and try again because what I ordered might not be indicative of their menu. I got the build your own burrito with chicken. It also doesn't help that I filled up on chips before getting the burrito. The place is pretty cool and has that soulard style added in for good measure. The burrito was good but not great. Overall not bad.

J.Bucks

J.Bucks
Clayton
www.jbucks.com
Price Range: Inexpensive

Well I was actually supposed to hit up Pho Grand this week but I had a friend in town and we decided to meet up at J.Bucks. I have never been there so it counts as a restaurant i had yet to visit. There really isn't anything unique about J.Bucks. Its fairly nice, a bit of an upscale bar kinda place. I had their chicken sandwhich which wasn't bad at all but nothing really out of the ordinary. It was all pretty standard.

Pi (π)

π
Delmar Loop
www.restaurantpi.com
Price Range: Borderline expensive

First on the list is Pi. A friend recommended it to me a few months earlier so I decided to give it a try. They don't take reservations so you get seated first come first serve and man, was it a wait. Granted there were 12 of us but we waited over an hour and a half just to get a table. The place seemed like it is the kind of place that is always busy. I guess my boy Obama is to blame for that. Despite the ridiculous wait, I have to say this is some of the best deep dish pizza I have had. I went with the East Loop deep dish and man, it's all about that crust. The toppings were good and there is alot of tomato sauce if you are into that but man, that cornmeal crust is off the chain. If you are the kind of person that actually eats your pizza crust then this is the place for you.

No, not that kind of hump.

So there I was sitting in another business meeting. Perhaps it was the sheer boredom of the meeting or the fact I was watching too much of the Discovery channel the night before. It was at that moment I came up with the brilliant idea of picking a restaurant I had never been to in St. Louis and visiting that restaurant each week....and now, I have decided on the not so brilliant idea of blogging about it. Now I am not much of a blogger and I feel a little too trendy just sitting here ..ahem..blogging, but what the hell.

Oh yeah It is called hump day in St. Louis because I do this every Wednesday(clever, I know).
